Cement production picks up in Colombia
According to the latest statistics released by Colombia’s DANE, production of grey cement increased by 10.2% y/y to 907 800 t in February 2014. Meanwhile, domestic cement sales for the month totalled 924 000 t, up 11.7% y/y.
Cement sales registered the highest growth in Cuaca (59.2%), North Santander (56.9%) and Magdalena (59.3%). However, sales were down by 38% in Córdoba and by 10.7% in Bolívar in February.
In the first two months of 2014, cement production reached approximately 1.727 million t and domestic consumption came in at more than 1.73 million t. This represents an increase of 6.1% y/y and 6.5% y/y, respectively.
In January – February 2014, according to destination region, cement sales declined in Córdoba and Bolívar but improved in Cundinamarca, Antioquia, Magdalena, North Santander, Huila and Valle del Cauca.
