Sustained funding needed for US infrastructure

Advocates say that, even with a recently passed long-term highway bill, sustained funding will help bring US infrastructure into the 21st century.
Leaders in the cement industry joined the PCA’s first DC Fly-In held on 24 – 25 May. Members of the association hailed Congress’s passage of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act as a significant step in bringing the latest innovation and technology to America’s roads and bridge, but noted that there is still work to be done.
“The cement industry helped drive Congress toward the adoption of a long-term highway bill,” noted A. Todd Johnston, executive vice president of government affairs at PCA. “But the need for additional investment in infrastructure does not end there. Our nation can benefit from modernised airports, for example. There is also a clear need for water infrastructure development to ensure public safety and the efficient transportation of goods along our nation’s waterways.”
