Hurricanes cause millions of dollars of damage across the US every year, but careful planning can help individuals and communities to prepare and build in order to standup to these deadly storms.

The PCA is teaming up with the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH) to educate the public in post-hurricane rescue and response during the Hurricane Awareness Tour. PCA has long advocated resilient building to help communities bounce back from the devastating aftermath of a storm.

“We cannot simply ignore the strong winds and hope that they’ll miss us,” said Donn Thompson, senior director of market development at PCA. “We have the technology and the resources to change the way we build, and mitigate both community destruction and economic losses.”

This year the 2016 Hurricane Awareness Tour will make stops in Galveston, Texas, new Orleans, Louisianna, Mobile, Alabama, and Naples, Florida. In conjunction with the tour, PCA is also participating in the #HurricaneString initiative that is sponsored by FLASH. The effort looks to increase safety and reduce economic losses through collaboration with the public and private organisations.
