CEMEX USA has announced that four of its cement plants have been recognised by the Portland Cement Association (PCA) for outstanding safety and environmental efforts. Three of the plants earned the PCA Chairman’s Safety Performance Award and the fourth received the PCA Energy and Environment Award. The awards were given during the PCA’s Concrete Fly-In event in Washington DC.
CEMEX USA’s Clinchfield cement plant in Clinchfield, Georgia, built on its reputation for safety, receiving the 2019 PCA Chairman’s Safety Performance Award. The plant received the same award in 2018, in recognition of its dedication to safe practices while producing portland cement, the core ingredient in concrete.
In addition, the company’s cement plants in Demopolis, Alabama, and Victorville, California, each received a PCA Chairman’s Safety award for their commitment to safety. The three plants were chosen from 100 cement plants nationwide as top performers in safety.
The company’s cement plant in Lyons, Colorado, was also honoured during the event with the PCA’s 2019 Energy and Environment Award in the Outreach category. This recognises activities that enhance relations with the plant’s community, employees, and local government. The plant routinely holds activities to actively engage its neighbours, developing meaningful partnerships to foster local relationships and support sustainable collaborations within the community.
“At CEMEX, safety is in our DNA, and it is a core value we take seriously at all our operations,” said Ignacio Madridejos, President of CEMEX USA. “We are constantly striving to improve safety, taking care of one another and looking for ways to do things better. These plants are to be commended for their commitment to safety and we are proud to have them leading the way in the industry.
“Our cement plants are parts of the communities where they operate, and at CEMEX, we work to operate responsibly and with respect for the environment. Sustainability is an important aspect of our business, and our Lyons cement plant provides a shining example of how plants can make a difference in their communities.”
CEMEX USA has been routinely recognised by the PCA for its efforts in safety and sustainability, earning 15 PCA awards in the last three years.
