US clinker production up 4% in March
The USGS has released its report on cement and clinker figures in the US and Puerto Rico in March 2013. Shipments of Portland and blended cement fell by around 3% y/y to 5.8 million t, although accumulated sales from January 2013 to March 2013 increased slightly to reach 15.4 million t. Texas, California and Missouri were the three biggest cement producers in March. Texas, California, Florida, Louisiana and Arizona received the highest amount of cement shipments, accounting for approximately 46% of the total.
In January – March, clinker production declined y/y to 13.7 million t but in March alone it reached 5.6 million t, up 4% y/y. The leading producing states were Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama.
Finally, mason cement shipments grew to 164 000 t in March and 435 000 t in January – March, both of which represent an increase of 3% y/y. Florida, Texas and California were the three biggest consumers of masonry cement in March 2013.
