Cemex to increase production capacity at its Odessa cement plant

World Cement,

Cemex has announced plans to increase the production capacity of its Odessa, Texas, cement plant from 345 000 tpa to almost 900 000 tpa. The expansion plans will take advantage of state-of-the-art technology, which will enhance productivity levels and lead to higher fuel efficiency. A higher capacity load out system will also provide a more efficient truck loading process, thereby allowing Cemex to cater for growing cement demand in West Texas, which has been driven by the oil and gas industry. Increasingly efficient extraction technologies, such as horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing, has led to a rise in demand for speciality cement products used in well construction.

“This expansion reinforces our longstanding history of serving West Texas and the oil and gas industry by providing superior products coupled with superior customer service,” said Karl Watson, Jr., President of Cemex USA. “We look forward to remaining a top cement provider to the oil and gas industry as well as supporting the region’s growth in infrastructure and residential construction.”
