World Cement,
The Titan America Pennsuco plant in Medley, Florida, has been honoured in the 2014 Cement Industry Energy & Environmental Awards in the ‘Outreach’ category. In October 2013, the plant painted part of its plant pink to raise awareness of breast cancer, and in November 2013 the Pennsuco facility was recognised for its contributions to conservation education by the Wildlife Habitat Council. The company frequently opens its facilities to school and college tours, as well as offering off-site presentations, and has achieved Corporate Lands for Learning certification by demonstrating its commitment to environmental stewardship.
The Energy & Environmental Awards are co-sponsored by PCA and Cement Americas and are held during the PCA’s fall meeting. The programme is open to any cement manufacturing plant in North America and recognises plants that go beyond government regulations and local laws to ensure their processes contribute to making their communities better places to live and work.
