World Cement,

North America’s Portland Cement Association (PCA) has announced the winners of the 2014 John P. Gleason Jr., Leadership Award, which provides recognition in the following categories: Business Continuity; Market Development; Young Leaders. The awards are given to employees of PCA’s member companies ‘who have exhibited industry leadership by taking the Association in new directions’.

John P. “Jay” Gleason, Jr., the award’s namesake, was PCA President from 1986 until his retirement in 2007. He was known for his consensus building among both members and allies and for his strong leadership skills.

This year’s prizes were presented at the PCA’s annual fall committee meeting, which took place in Chicago. The winners are:

Tim Kuebler, Chief Government Affairs Officer for Titan America, winner: Market Development category

Kuebler has been has been a critical component in PCA paving advocacy efforts. His leadership expands well beyond his role as co-chairman of the PCA Paving Committee. Whether he is testifying in legislative forums or speaking with community groups, his mantra of people, planet and profit for consideration of the proper use of sustainable pavements is clearly evident.

Leveraging his leadership role within PC, Kuebler has championed regular sharing of advocacy/promotion best practices and success stories among all industry allies, and encouraged advocates to seek relationships beyond our industry to move our messages forward.

Corey Zollinger, Director of Market Development for Cemex USA, winner: Young Leaders category

Zollinger is an energetic, passionate industry spokesperson for roller-compacted concrete (RCC) pavements. Through his leadership, he has advanced the awareness and quality of RCC pavements throughout the country. He played a major role in organising and obtaining financial sponsors for the very successful RCC paving demonstrations at the 2013 and 2014 World of Concrete.

Zollinger was instrumental in developing the concept and creating the recently established Roller Compacted Concrete Pavement Promotion and Research Council with the mission to build awareness of RCC pavements, support and advocate for research and partner with allied industry groups, government agencies and other decision makers to improve and promote the use of RCC. He serves as chairman for this group.

Jacqueline Clark, Director of Communications and Public Affairs for Ash Grove Cement Company, winner: Business Continuity category

Clark is a recognised leader who plays an active role in identifying and resolving challenges at all levels of government. Clark led teams in Kansas and Oklahoma to resolve important taxation and transportation issues that adversely affected Ash Grove’s Chanute plant’s competitiveness.

In Kansas, her team passed legislation, which Governor Sam Brownbeck signed into law, to remedy a property tax issue with support of the Boilermakers, three chambers of commerce and members of the plant’s Community Advisory Committee.

In Oklahoma, Clark’s team worked with a multi-industry coalition to promote a positive resolution to a rail line ownership matter.
