Official inauguration ceremony held for El Palmar cement plant
Mexico’s Cementos Fortaleza held an official inauguration ceremony for the El Palmar cement plant, which was attended by the country’s Secretary of Economy, Ildefonso Guajardo.
The plant is located in Hidalgo and has a production capacity of 1 million tpa. It began commercial operations in early 2013. Although it is currently running at 80% capacity, Cementos Fortaleza expects it to reach full capacity by the end of 2014, according to local press. Despite declining sales hit by faltering construction activity, the company expects the situation to improve.
Cementos Fortaleza is owned by Elementia, in which Carlos Slim holds a 46% stake and Antonio Del Valle holds 54%. In August 2013, Elementia announced plans to enter into a strategic alliance with Lafarge to strengthen and optimise cement operations in the country.
