Heidelberg Materials UK has introduced evoBuild, its global brand for low-carbon and circular cement, ready-mixed concrete, aggregates and asphalt products, aligning with its parent company.
All evoBuild products have clear sustainability credentials: they are either low carbon – providing a CO2 reduction of at least 30% compared with a standard equivalent – or circular, containing a minimum 30% recycled content or at least 30% less material.
Along with evoZero, the world’s first carbon captured net-zero cement, evoBuild will help set new standards for sustainable building materials and lead the pathway towards net zero and circularity.
All Heidelberg Materials UK sustainable products will gradually be integrated into the evoBuild portfolio over the next few years.
CEO Simon Willis said: “Decarbonisation and circularity are core pillars for our business.
“Introducing evoBuild products brings a global and transparent approach to product sustainability. It makes it easier for customers to specify more sustainable construction materials and will help us reach our target of generating 50% of our global revenue through sustainable products by 2030.”
evoZero, introduced to customers in Europe last year, uses carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology to achieve its net zero status.
Heidelberg Materials has been developing the industry’s first large-scale CCS facility in Brevik, Norway, since 2005. Once operational, it will capture 400 000 t of CO2 annually and allow the production of evoZero. By 2029 Heidelberg Materials is set to begin producing evoZero cement at its Padeswood site in north Wales, delivering another significant milestone in the decarbonisation of the construction industry.
