MVW Lechtenberg & Partner and Tridiagonal Solutions have signed a cooperation agreement that will enable the companies to combine their activities in the worldwide cement and lime industries to utilise CFD models to develop, design and troubleshoot combustion processes.

Tridiagonal Solutions Pvt. Ltd, based in India, was founded in 2006 by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) professionals and experts from the National Laboratory. The company has a dedicated experimental laboratory for CFD solutions. Germany’s MVW Lechtenberg & Partner is one of the leading consulting firms for the implementation of alternative fuels from biomass and useable wastes in the cement, lime and power industries.

CFD is a computer aided solution technique used to describe and simulate flow-related physical phenomena (e.g. fluid flow, heat transfer and combustion). CFD has proven to be a powerful technique in solving flow-related problems across a range of industries. Various cement, lime and power plant applications that can be analysed using CFD include:

  • Kilns and boilers.
  • Flue gas cleaning systems such as electrostatic precipitators.
  • Bag filters.
  • Bypass systems.
  • NOX reduction systems (selective non-catalytic reduction – SNCR).
  • Heat recovery steam generators and related equipment.

“Recent advances in understanding of combustion, multi-phase turbulent reacting flows and computational resources, mean it is now possible to develop and use computational models to simulate the performance of cement and lime plant equipment,” said Dirk Lechtenberg, Managing Director and Founder of MVW Lechtenberg & Partner. “With our huge database on alternative fuels and raw materials and their influence on processes and with the outstanding, experienced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling professionals from Tridiagonal Solutions, we can now provide a reliable and cost effective process modelling solution to the industry.”

Sandeepak Natu, Head-India Europe Business Unit of Tridiagonal Solutions, also commented on the new partnership. “Tridiagonal has been delivering process performance enhancement and product development solutions to leading companies from the chemical and process, oil and gas, power generation, pharmaceuticals and automotive industries. We are excited to partner with MVW and bring our expertise to the cement and lime industries. The synergy between Tridiagonal and MVW’s expertise will lead to new insights and innovative solutions in the cement and lime industry worldwide.”

Aside from the CFD modelling, the cooperation also offers a framework for the following state-of-the-art technology services:

  • Process engineering and consulting (including manufacturing of pilot plants).
  • Experimental fluid flow modelling.
  • CFD modelling.
  • Discrete element modelling (DEM) and granular dynamics consulting (EDEM - CFD coupled simulations).
  • Simulation software development.
