HeidelbergCement subsidiary, Cementa, has appointed Magnus Ohlsson as Managing Director. Ohlsson succeeds Jan Gånge at the Swedish cement maker, after Gånge stepped down to focus on his other roles within HeidelbergCement Northern Europe.
Ohlsson, a HeidelbergCement veteran, was appointed Marketing Manager and Vice President at Cementa in 2014, a role he will continue following his promotion to Managing Director.
Under Ohlsson, Cementa will continue to work on its vision of zero-carbon emissions through the lifetime of the product, as well as developing new products to better meet the market need’s of today’s modern society.
In 2015, the HeidelbergCement Northern Europe – of which Cementa is a part – reported emissions of 693 kg/t of cement.
The company’s zero-carbon emission strategy focuses on five areas: energy efficiency, the use of biomass, the use of alternative cementitious materials, such as flyash and blastfurnace slag, carbon capture and storage, and carbonation – the process whereby hardened concrete absorbs CO2.
Cementa is the only cement producer in Sweden, operating three plants: Slite and Degerhamn – both on islands off the southeast coast of the country – and in Skövde in southern Sweden.
