Tarmac arranges fun day out for Vale children

World Cement,

As part of the community partnership, Tarmac’s Aberthaw Cement Plant arranged a fun day out for 59 children and volunteers from the Vale Parent/Child Homework Club, which supports local Vale children and their families with lifelong learning support.

Along with representatives from Tarmac, they spent the morning at the Amelia Trust Farm, and then moved on to the Welsh Hawking Centre following a picnic lunch.

Chris Bradbury, plant manager at Tarmac’s Aberthaw Cement said, “We thought that a day out at the Farm and seeing the birds and other animals at the Welsh Hawking Centre would be just what the children needed. It was great to see the children enjoying themselves in the fresh air and to reinforce the message that it is good to keep a balance between studying and spending time outside. We are looking forward to continuing our community partnership with the club and helping the youngsters who attend reach their full potential and make the most of their educational years.”

Vale Parent/Child Homework Club co-founder Cath Watkins said, “We were delighted when the Tarmac Aberthaw team said that they wanted the children to enjoy a day out as part of our community partnership. The children have been so excited for days looking forward to their day out and now following the trip will have lovely memories to talk about with their homework club friends. For many of the children that we support, the new school year can be a very daunting prospect and to ease them into it with a lovely trip like this is just great. On behalf of the children, their parents and all the volunteers at the club, we’d like to say a big thank you to our Tarmac friends.”
