World Cement,
ARC Marine and Material Evolution have announced a new partnership to integrate Material Evolution’s green cement into some of ARC Marine’s products.
ARC Marine and Material Evolution have formalised a partnership with the shared goal of developing and deploying Material Evolution’s MevoCem product across ARC Marine’s portfolio of aquaculture, coastal defence, and offshore energy products. As part of the partnership, ARC Marine has accepted delivery of the first shipment of product to undergo stringent testing in the harsh marine environment. MevoCem is well-suited to harsh marine environments, because of its enhanced durability compared to Portland Cement based concretes.
Through the partnership, the organisations will develop and test bespoke products tailored for subtidal and intertidal construction with the aim of scaling up production to include a wide-scale collaboration throughout the year and beyond.
“This partnership represents a significant step toward our vision of creating sustainable marine infrastructure," said Tom Birbeck, CEO of ARC Marine. "We are thrilled to work alongside Material Evolution to combine our expertise and drive meaningful environmental progress, and we look forward to the improved performance their MevoCem product can provide."
Dr. Elizabeth Gilligan, CEO of Material Evolution, said, "By joining forces with ARC Marine, we are advancing the use of innovative, sustainable materials in critical marine construction applications. Together, we aim to show the power of collaborative innovation and set a new standard for environmental responsibility."
Cement is responsible for 8% of total global emissions, and Material Evolution’s ultra-low carbon cement saves up to 85% carbon emissions compared to Ordinary Portland Cement. The company recently launched its first-of-a-kind ultra-low carbon cement production facility in Wrexham, Wales, with a capacity of 120 000 tpy.
ARC Marine’s nature-based solutions double up as artificial reefs and actively restore marine ecosystems whilst protecting critical infrastructure like submerged cables and breakwaters. ARC Marine have deployed over 2000 reef cubes into seven different countries and reef cubes have provided a habitat for over 190 unique species.
The agreement between ARC Marine and Eco Material reflects a shared commitment to sustainability and innovation.
