Dangote Cement opens new plant in Cameroon

Dangote Cement has opened a new 1.5 million tpy grinding plant in Douala, Cameroon. Cameroon’s President, Paul Biya commended Aliko Dangote for his investments across Africa and was likewise praised for creating a welcoming environment for investment. A foundation stone has also been laid for a jetty in the Base Elf area, Port Autonome De Douala.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Dangote said that the plant was the company’s largest greenfield project in a neighbouring country to Nigeria, where Dangote Cement is based. He added that the investment was strategic because Cameroon is the largest economy in Central Africa and has an abundance of natural resources.
The plant took an investment of US$250 million and the company has already said it will double capacity at the plant to 3 million tpy. The contract for this project was signed with Sinoma International Engineering yesterday.
