Dangote Cement announces plans to reach 60 million t capacity by 2015

Chairman of Dangote Cement, Aliko Dangote, has announced that the company plans to increase its cement production capacity from 11 million t to 60 million t by 2015. The announcement to increase its capacity by 49 million t was made at the company’s annual general meeting in Lagos.

Cement expansion in Africa

The company’s strategic expansion plans include:

  • Capacity of the 6 million t Ibese plant in Nigeria is set to double. The plant’s capacity will reach 12 million t within the next 26 months.
  • Expansion at the Obajana cement plant will see the plant gain an additional 3 million t.
  • The Calabar plant will have a production capacity of 6 million t.
  • The company is constructing 3000 tpd plants in other areas of Africa, such as Zambia, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Congo.

Shareholders at the meeting approved the company’s gross dividend of N34.9 billion. In FY11, Dangote Cement recorded profit after tax of N125.5 million, an increase on FY10’s N105.3 million.
