Nigeria’s BUA Cement has signed a gas sales and purchase agreement with Nigerian Gas Company (NGC). Under the agreement, NGC will supply approximately 33 million ft3/d of natural gas to BUA Cement’s cement plant in Okpella, Edo State.
Kabiru Rabiu, Executive Director at BUA Group, signed the agreement in Lagos on behalf of BUA Cement. He told local press that the agreement represented an important step toward the commissioning of the plant, which is scheduled for the end of 2014. The company has invested around US$500 million in the new plant. Once completed, the facility will have a production capacity of approximately 3 million tpa.
BUA Group entered the cement industry in 2008, commencing operations in September 2008. The company owns and operates Nigeria’s first floating cement terminal, which has a storage capacity of 40 000 t, and a cement plant in Port Harcourt, River State. The more recent acquisitions of Sokoto Cement and Edo Cement have expanded the company’s operations in the country.
