Nigerian cement producer Dangote Cement Plc has launched a new brand, Dangote 3X cement, which will replace the existing brand sold in the domestic market. The new 42.5R grade product has been approved by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

The unveiling ceremony was held in Lagos, Nigeria, and attended by industry stakeholders. Devakumar Edwin, Managing Director of Dangote Cement, told local press that the new brand of cement represented a part of the company’s efforts to tackle the issue of building collapse by ensuring consumers are using the best and most suitable product.

The new product, which will be sold in 50 kg bags, has been formulated to possess extra strength, yield and life, making it ideal for use in the construction industry. Furthermore, the 42.5R product has a faster drying time than the 45.2 grade cement currently used on the market, resulting in improved productivity, as builders will be able to de-mould earlier and therefore increase output.

Edwin further commented that the 42.5 cement from Dangote achieves 42.5 MPA strength in 28 days setting time compared to 32.5 grade, which only achieves 32.5 MPA in the same period of time. The new product is ground finer than 32.5 grade cement, giving a finer finish to concrete work, and has fewer air pockets, which results in a longer life. Furthermore, the 42.5 grade product gives a higher yield than 32.5 grade cement, meaning that users can increase volume by mixing more sand into the same amount of cement.
