Cemex announced that the Inter-American Development Bank recognised the company’s road safety practices in a regional study on motorcycle safety in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The report, Motorcyclists in Latin America: Current Situation, Lessons Learned, and Recommended Best Practices for the Protection of Users, highlights Cemex’s program as an example of private sector practices that can help improve road safety. According to the report, these measures contributed to a 54% reduction in traffic accidents involving Cemex over a six-year period.

“Health and Safety is our highest priority, and road safety is an essential part of how we operate across the region,” said Alejandro Ramírez, President of Cemex South, Central America, and the Caribbean. “By combining technology, training, and operational discipline, we continue working to prevent incidents and protect drivers, motorcyclists, and other road users.”

Cemex’s road safety programme has been implemented in Peru, Colombia, Nicaragua, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and Trinidad and Tobago. The programme includes vehicle inspections, route and schedule planning, driver behaviour monitoring, and technologies designed to reduce vehicle blind spots.

The recognition underscores the importance of sharing practices that can be replicated across operations and sectors to advance safer mobility in Latin America and the Caribbean.
