McInnis Cement has received the first of 25 new railcars for cement distribution from TrinityRail. The first convoy of seven railcars recently arrived at the Gaspé railway corporation network (Société du Chemin de fer de la Gaspésie).

The new pressure differential cars have a capacity of 3230 ft3 and are designed to transport, load, and unload dry bulk material under tightly sealed conditions.

The second convoy of 12 railcars is expected to follow within days, while a final convoy of six railcars will complete the order and is due to arrive by mid-April. The railcars will be ready to load cement at the New Richmond transhipment site at the start of commercial operations of the cement plant.

The railcars form a part of McInnis Cement’s distribution network, which also includes a number of marine terminals in eastern Canada and the northeastern US, supplied from a deepwater terminal connected to the cement plant at Port-Daniel–Gascons.

“As the work continues with the intensity required to start our plant operations on time, our team is working extremely hard to complete the final pieces of the puzzle for both logistics and distribution,” said McInnis Cement CEO Herve Mallet. “We are pleased to see that everything is in place to distribute our cement to our customers in the coming weeks.”

McInnis Cement is a new entrant into the North American cement sector and is the first new cement plant to serve the eastern Canadian and New England construction markets in more than 50 years.
