Votorantim opens 2015 trainee programme

Brazil’s Votorantim Group has opened up the application process for its 2015 Trainee Programme. There are a total of 42 places available across the Group’s divisions, including cement, metals, energy and steel. Trainees will have the opportunity to participate in activities and projects within various areas of the company, and they will also be mentored and take part in training workshops at the group’s corporate university, Votorantim’s Academy of Excellence, in order to further develop their skills.

LafargeHolcim asset acquisition speculation

In other news, The Telegraph is reporting that Votorantim may be among the companies planning to bid for Lafarge and Holcim assets, including the UK’s Lafarge Tarmac. The two cement giants have proposed a series of divestments in order to avoid potential issues with regulatory bodies over their merger plans. In the UK, Lafarge plans to divest Lafarge Tarmac with the possible exception of one cement plant. In line with this, Anglo American, Lafarge’s partner in the Lafarge Tarmac joint venture, has agreed in principle to sell its 50% stake to Lafarge for a minimum value of £885 million in cash, on a debt and cash free basis.

Speculation regarding who will pick up the various asset disposals has included a number of international players, such as CRH and Turkey’s Sabanci Holding.
