Cement shipments up 7% y/y in the US and Puerto Rico in 1H14
The USGS has released its Mineral Industry Survey for cement in June 2014 and 1H14. In the US and Puerto Rico, shipments of Portland and blended cement reached approximately 8.3 million t during the month, up 11% y/y. The top Portland-cement producing states included Texas, Missouri, California, Michigan and Florida. Together these states accounted for 43% of June’s output. The biggest consumers were Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois, accounting for around 37%. In January – June 2014, shipments grew to 39.5 million t, around 7% higher than in the corresponding period in 2013.
In 1H14, clinker production increased by 4% y/y to reach 33.7 million t. In June alone, clinker production improved by 5% y/y to total 6.6 million t.
Shipments of masonry cement were also higher than in 2013, rising by 14% y/y to 207 000 t in June and by 8% y/y to 1.08 million t in 1H14.
