North America: PCA appoints new Manager of Codes and Standards

The Portland Cement Association (PCA) has announced that William “Jay” Hall will return to the association as Manager of Codes and Standards. He will work from Keysville, Virginia, and will represent the cement-based products sector in the development process for codes and standards for organisations such as the International Code Council and the National Fire Protection Association. He will be engaged in developing codes related to fire protection at a national, state and local level.

Hall worked for the PCA as a code specialist for regional code services in 2007. Before returning to the PCA, he was a Virginia state fire marshal, assistant building official and commercial plan review supervisor. Hall’s +20 years of experience include serving on the committees of Building Officials and Code Administrators International.

UK: CPA announces new Policy Director and Deputy Chief Executive

Peter Caplehorn will join the UK’s Construction Products Association (CPA) as Policy Director and Deputy Chief Executive. Previously Technical Director at Scott Brownrigg, Peter is a Chartered Architect with some 33 years of experience. He is Deputy Chair of the Building Regulations Advisory Committee and also chairs the British Standards Institution’s strategic committee for construction. He has recently been focusing on the new CDM Regulations, application of Building Information Modelling (BIM) within construction regulations and future building regulations.

“I am very pleased to be able to appoint such a strong candidate to take over this role,” said Dr Diana Montgomery, Association Chief Executive. “Peter brings a wealth of relevant experience to the Association and he is well known within our industry as a great advocate of good construction practices. I look forward to introducing him to our members and for him to get stuck into helping the Association champion the role of construction product manufacturing and distribution.”

“For many years I have worked closely with product manufacturers and the supply side of the industry. I am delighted to be joining the Construction Products Association to further these relationships and support this valuable sector. As a practical designer I understand the need, and also the frustrations, this part of the construction industry faces.
