Faced with continuing soft market conditions that have impacted the entire lime industry, Graymont has announced that it will indefinitely idle its Pavilion lime plant and quarry, located near Lillooet, British Columbia, effective 30 June 2016.

Approximately 40 people are employed at the Pavilion plant, which is situated on Indian reserve land leased from Ts’kw’aylaxw First Nation. Graymont officials plan to meet with employees and the Union to find solutions that will help mitigate the impact of the idling. In addition, Graymont has proposed to create a working group composed of representatives from the Company and the TFN to engage in constructive dialogue regarding the plant’s longer-term future.

Pavilion is not the only Graymont facility in the Pacific Northwest to have been impacted by market conditions. In mid-March, the Company announced a restructuring of operations at its Tacoma, Washington, facility. Graymont remains nonetheless fully committed to the Western Canadian market and will continue to supply its customers from other Graymont facilities in the region.
