Lafarge Canada has announced that its aggregates team in Eastern Canada has been recognised by the Ontario Sand, Stone and Gravel Association (OSSGA) for its commitment to rehabilitation, community involvement and property enhancements efforts in 2020. OSSGA’s Industry Recognition Awards Programme recognises a wide range of activities that contribute to the progressive image of the aggregate industry. This is key to raising the bar in the aggregate industry, and highlighting the producers that go above and beyond expectations.

The most sought-after awards include, but are not limited to, Community Relations, Progressive Rehabilitation, Property Enhancement, and Biodiversity – of which Lafarge Canada received three as follows:
- Judges' Choice Award for Progressive Rehabilitation at the Lawford Pit, where the team at the site managed to quickly re-establish the pit floor back to agricultural land while promoting the expansion of the Credit River and Core Greenland forest.
- Biodiversity Award at the Uxbridge-Regan Pit; which was received for the company’s work to help to engage people, reduce threats, enhance resilience, and improve knowledge, in line with the four pillars in the Ontario Biodiversity Strategy Framework.
- Property Enhancement Award (Gold Bar) at the Cambridge Pit, following extensive work that emphasised the importance of the site’s social, economic and environmental sustainability.
Lafarge’s ongoing commitment to rehabilitation, community involvement, and property enhancement is a testament to its hard-working team. The company is humbled to receive these prestigious awards and industry recognition as it continues its efforts to promote a more sustainable way of building Canada.
