March cement statistics from Latin America
Brazil
Domestic cement sales grew by 1.9% y/y in March to approximately 5.6 million t. In 1Q14, sales came in at 17.1 million t, up 6.4% on 1Q13’s 16.1 million t. Accumulated sales for the last 12 months (April 2013 – March 2014) have risen by 4.3% y/y to 71 million t of cement.
Ecuador
According to Ecuador’s Cement and Concrete Institute, around 497 601 t of cement was sold in the country in March 2014. This is slightly lower than the volumes reached in March 2013 (499 743 t) and in the previous month of February 2014 (511 795). However on an accumulated basis, cement sales in January – March 2014 increased by 2.5% y/y from 1.485 million t to 1.522 million t.
Peru
Peruvian cement manufacturers associated with ASOCEM dispatched 814 495 t of cement on the national market in March 2014. In the first three months of 2014, sales were 1.35% higher than in the corresponding period in 2013. Some 16 599 t of cement was exported in March alone.
