Cementos Argos received the Silver Class distinction in RobecoSAM’s 2015 Sustainability Yearbook for the second consecutive year. The company was recognised due to its commitment to economic, environmental and social sustainability in each of the markets in which it operates and for its support to communities, governments, employees, customers and education. As a result of this, the company performed highly in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index survey, which in turn led to Argos receiving the Silver Class distinction. The manufacturer is one of only three cement companies worldwide that is included in this index. In 2014, it improved its score and it was included in the World and the Emerging Markets Indices.

RobecoSAM is a private organisation that independently qualifies companies that are a part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. Since 2004, it has listed the most sustainable companies in every industry worldwide in its Sustainability Yearbook. Every year, more than 3000 companies from around the world are invited to participate in RobecoSAM’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment. On this occasion, approximately 820 companies accepted the invitation to be classified (according to their results) into the Gold, Silver or Bronze categories. For each of the 59 industries, the company with the highest score is recognised as ‘Industry Leader’.

“At Argos, sustainability is one of the fundamental pillars that outlines all of our actions and that make us commit to working within a context of high standards in this field. This is why we are so pleased to have been included, one again, in the Silver Class category, which not only recognises our sustainable management, but which also challenges us to continue consolidating ourselves as a solid company that creates long-lasting value and benefits,” said Maria Isabel Echeverri, Argos’ Vice President of Sustainability.

In order to be included in the Yearbook, companies must have one of the highest scores in their industry. In Colombia, for example, other companies such as Grupo Sura, Grupo Argos and Grupo Nutresa were also included in the Sustainability Yearbook. The results published by RobecoSAM provide a perspective of the investments risks and opportunities in each country, seeking to create value and build up investors’ trust in the long term.
