Cemex inaugurates 450 000 tpa cement plant in Colombia
This week Cemex held an inauguration ceremony for its new cement plant in Clemencia, north of Bolívar, Colombia. This is the company’s fifth cement plant in Colombia and its first in the Caribbean Coast region of the country. The plant, which represents an investment of US$50 million, will supply cement to construction and infrastructure development projects in the area. It will have a capacity of 450 000 tpa and produce cement for general use, structural and marine applications.
Around 500 indirect jobs were generated during the construction phase, 200 of which were fulfilled by Clemencia residents. Approximately 70% of the plant’s workers are from the local area.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Housing and Transport, the Superintendent of Ports and Transport, the Governor of Bolívar and the Mayor of Clemencia, as well as other local officials.
