ADOCEM advocates cement-based roads

Concrete roads

According to local press, the Dominican Cement Producers Association (ADOCEM) recently met with business leaders to encourage a greater understanding of the benefits of concrete roads. ADOCEM has been working to advocate cement-based roads in the country, both in terms of repair work and new construction. A longer lifetime, lower maintenance costs and high durability are among the advantages of using concrete for road infrastructure.

At the meeting, Carlos E. Gonález, President of both ADOCEM and Cemex Dominicana, explained that the country’s cement manufacturers have been demonstrating the benefits of concrete infrastructure, including roads and highway. Cemex Dominicana has been awarded a project to build a 28 km road between Luperon and Puerto Plata. González has called on the government and private sector to make greater use of cement in the country’s road network.

XXXI Technical Congress FICEM

The Dominican Republic will be the host country for this year’s FICEM Technical Congress. Taking place in Santo Domingo, the event will comprise an exhibition featuring local and international equipment and service suppliers, as well as a conference programme covering the key issues affecting the global cement sector, ranging from technical developments to sustainability initiatives. The congress will also include a visit to Domicem’s Sabana Grande de Palenque plant.

Keep an eye out for the August 2014 issue of World Cement, in which ADOCEM’s Executive Director, Julissa Baez, will provide an overview of the Dominican Republic’s cement industry. In the meantime, you can have a look at photos from the 2013 Technical Congress in Lima via World Cement’s Facebook page.
