Concrete roads in Jamaica

According to a report in the Jamaica Observer, Jamaica’s National Works Agency will invite road building and repair contract bids for concrete as well as asphalt. The plan to also include concrete was announced by Dr Omar Davies, Jamaica’s Minister of Transport and Works. In April, Dr Davies stated that he would be meeting with firms involved in the construction of concrete roads, including Caribbean Cement Company, in response to the poor state of the country’s current road system. Caribbean Cement and its parent company Trinidad Cement Ltd (TCL), have both championed the advantages of concrete roads. TCL has carried out research into the soil cement stabilisation technique, which has been used to rehabilitate roads around the group’s Mayo Quarry in Trinidad and Tobago. TCL Guyana Inc. also employed the technique on a road repair project in Georgetown to demonstrate its benefits.

TCL’s first oilwell cement shipment

TCL has dispatched 300 t of Class G oilwell cement to Colombia, its first shipment of the kind to Latin America. Earlier this year, TCL expressed its plans to expand its presence in Latin American markets, including exporting oilwell cement.
