Thanks to this investment, Cementos Arigas will achieve higher levels of efficiency and an improvement in its sustainability impact, in line with some of the best in its sector. Highlights of this project include a new high-efficiency vertical cement mill, a multicellular silo, and a modern, high-productivity bulk cement dispatching system. In terms of sustainability, this initiative significantly reduces current consumption of electricity and freight, and the relocation of industrial activity outside the urban centre of Montevideo.

The total investment for this project has been US$40 million (€37 million), which has been done over the last eighteen months. In addition to preserving existing jobs by facilitating the relocation of employees to the new plant, more than 300 new jobs were created during the construction of the new plant.

The inauguration of the plant was attended by high dignitaries including the President of Uruguay, Dr Luis Lacalle, Omar Paganini, the Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines, and the Vice Minister of Economy and Finance, Alejandro Irastorza, demonstrating the importance of the project to the overall economic development of the country.

According to Julio Rodríguez, Chief Executive Officer of Cementos Molins, "With this new investment, we make progress on the objectives set out in our Sustainability Roadmap and we reinforce our strategic commitment to the Uruguayan market, where we have been present since 1991 through Cementos Artigas”. "This project is a clear demonstration of our commitment to sustainability and, also, consolidates our company as the most competitive in the sector in the country," added Rodríguez.
