Holcim Ecuador’s Guayaquil plant has reached the sixth month of construction of its second modernisation phase, which comprises the construction of a third clinker production line. The new line will substitute imports and received support from the Ecuadorian Government, which signed an investment contract with Holcim Ecuador in April worth US$300 million, one of the highest investments of this type in Ecuador’s private industrial sector.

The investment contract was signed within the framework of the “Código Orgánico de la Producción, Comercio e Inversiones” (Organic Code of Production, Trade and Investments), which aims to promote new and productive investment projects within Ecuador focused - among others – on substituting strategic imports and using environmentally cleaner technology.

Holcim recently reported its Group results for 1H13, which highlighted the strong performance of Ecuador. Construction of the new line is progressing according to schedule and is set for completion in 2015.
