ASTM gives Frank E. Richart Award

The ASTM International Committee C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates has awarded Neal S. Berke, vice president of research at Tourney Consulting Group, the Frank E. Richart Award.
Berke has been a member of ASTM since 1984 and has been the recipient of many awards, including the Award of Merit in 1999 and the Francis L. LaQue Memorial Award in 2009. In addition to his active membership with C09, he has been a member of numerous committees including A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys, C27 on Precast Concrete Products, E60 on Sustainability, G01 on Corrosion of Metals, C13 on Concrete Pipe, and G03 on Weathering and Durability. Award of Merit in 1999 and the Francis L. LaQue Memorial Award in 2009. In addition to his active membership with C09, he has been a member of numerous committees including A01 on Steel, Stainless Steel and Related Alloys, C27 on Precast Concrete Products, E60 on Sustainability, G01 on Corrosion of Metals, C13 on Concrete Pipe, and G03 on Weathering and Durability.
Prior to starting his career with Tourney Consulting Group in 2010, he worked ad a research fellow at Grace Construction Products in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for 27 years. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Chicago and a PhD in metallurgical engineering from the University of Illinois.
In addition to ASTM, Berke is a member of the American Concrete Institute, NACE International, Transportation Research Board, ASM International, the American Society for Civil Engineering, and the Concrete Reinforcement Steel Institute.
