Peruvian cement dispatches and construction activity demonstrate y/y growth

According to the latest statistics from ASOCEM, those companies affiliated with it dispatched 815 317 t of cement on the Peruvian domestic market in February. On an accumulated basis, cement sales in January – February 2014 were 0.14% higher than in the same period in 2013. Cement exports in February alone totalled 15 349 t.
Peruvian economy in January 2014
The National Institute of Statistics and Information (INEI) has released figures pertaining to the country’s economy in January 2014. The economy grew by 4.23% compared to January 2013, marking 54 months of continuous growth. Construction activity picked up for the fourth consecutive month, rising by 3.2% y/y in January. The manufacturing industry also showed improvement, with production levels up 0.42% y/y. Precious and non-ferrous metals, as well as petroleum refineries were among the sectors that contributed to this increase. Finally, the mining and hydrocarbon sector grew for the tenth month in a row, up by 5.55% y/y in January 2014. Extraction of substances such as iron, natural gas and copper increased but gold, zinc and liquid natural gas production decreased.
