Lafarge cement plant in Nova Scotia wins award for environmental excellence
The Truro Daily News has reported that Lafarge’s Brookfield cement plant, Canada, has won the ‘Large Business of the Year’ category in the RRFB Nova Scotia Mobius Awards of Environmental Excellence. The awards celebrate individuals, businesses and institutions in Nova Scotia that provide innovative solutions to waste reduction.
The Lafarge plant produces MaxCem, a blended cement that utilises GGBS. By preventing the steel byproduct from ending up as landfill, 18 000 t of CO2 emissions was avoided and 2500 t of coal was saved.
