President of the Dominican Republic inaugurates new cement plant

Cementos Panam has inaugurated a new US$80 million cement plant in Villa Gautier, Dominican Republic. President Danilo Medina cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony. The plant utilises state-of-the-art equipment to ensure that it complies with environmental standards.

According to the government’s website, the plant will provide 400 direct and 2400 indirect jobs. The Minister for Industry and Commerce has stressed the government’s intention to stimulate the economy and construction sector, including investing in housing and the construction of hospitals and schools.

This is the seventh cement plant to be established in the Dominican Republic, bringing the country’s production capacity to almost 7 million tpa. Around 40% of the Dominican Republic’s cement exports are destined for the Caribbean.
