Cement despatches rise y/y in Argentina and Peru, while production remains level in the US

Following the release of June despatch statistics in Brazil and Paraguay, the national cement associations in Argentina and Peru have now published figures for the month.

In Argentina, 930 758 t of Portland cement was despatched in June 2013, including exports. This represents an 8.4% m/m decline but an increase of 2.7% when compared to June 2012. Domestic consumption came in at 913 431 t, up 2.9% y/y but 8.5% lower than May 2013.

The amount of cement despatched in Peru in 1H13 increased by 11.4% y/y. In June alone, domestic despatches reached 795 896 t and 10 915 t of cement were exported.

North America

The USGS has released cement data for the month of April 2013. Shipments of Portland and blended cement in the US and Puerto Rico were down slightly at 6.7 million t, with January – April figures remaining level at 22 million t. The top three cement producing states in April were Texas, California and Missouri, while Texas, California and Florida received the most shipments.

Around 5.6 million t of clinker was produced in April, up 3% y/y, the main producers of which were California, Texas, Missouri, Florida and Alabama. Accumulated production from January to April increased to 19.3 million t.

Shipments of masonry cement grew 10% y/y to 183 000 t in April, and rose by 4% y/y to 618 000 t in January – April 2013.
