Cemex delivers affordable housing in Colombia

Cemex has completed the construction of 640 apartment residences in Colombia. The homes are part of a 3000-unit urbanisation project being undertaken by the company in collaboration with the Colombian government. The full project comprises 3000 apartments divided into 96 towers of four stories each, which will include recreational and green areas. The paving for the complex will be done with concrete also provided by Cemex.

Luis Felipe Henao, the Colombian Housing Minister, was present to inaugurate the homes at an event attended by Cemex executives, government representatives and members of the local community. Many of the recipients of the new homes are low-income families that have not had access to an affordable home in the past.

“The houses we are delivering in Monteria are dignified, comfortable and high-quality homes like every needy Colombian deserves,” said Minister Henao. “In this way, the National Government is supporting social investment so that more low-income families can have dignified housing.”

The completion of the housing units in Colombia follows the announcement by Cemex Latam Holdings that the company will participate in the construction of 12 000 new homes in Latin America over the course of 2014. This represents part of the company’s efforts to strengthen its solutions based commercial offer.
