Peru: cement production and dispatch volumes decline in February 2015
According to Peruvian cement association ASOCEM, cement production increased by 1.5% y/y in the 12 months to February 2015, while dispatches on the national market improved by 0.2% y/y. Total dispatches during the period, including exports, grew by 1.4% y/y.
However, in February alone, cement production fell by 4% and domestic dispatches by 4.1%. When exports are also taken into account, dispatches in the second month of 2015 were down by 4.1%. The decline has been attributed to unfavourable weather conditions, weaker private investment and public spending, as well as lower confidence levels.
