Cement trade monitoring methods discussed in the Caribbean
In August, the OECS Secretariat’s Trade Policy Unit (TPU) announced that it had initiated discussion amongst Caribbean member states regarding the monitoring of cement trade in the region. A video conference took place to discuss appropriate methods for keeping track of cement supply and demand in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). TPU has presented the OECS’ recommendations to CARICOM representatives for consideration.
“Cement is an important commodity used in construction and given the importance of the construction sector to economic development in the OECS, it was necessary for member states to agree on the data that would be required to monitor trade in cement within the region,” said Virginia Paul, Head of the OECS Trade Policy Unit.
