World Cement,
Dynamis’ paper ‘CFD analyses of the cement kiln’ has won the award for the best article presented at the ESSS Conference and ANSYS Users Meeting, held in May 2016.
The paper presented the CFD modelling of a cement kiln at an industrial scale, operated with multi-burner D-Flame to petroleum coke, using ANSYS Fluent v16.1. it discussed geometry and the mesh of the computational domain, as well as using models, boundary conditions and numerical parameters. Temperature, chemical composition and velocity profiles in the furnace, including the firing head region as well as the trajectories of the carbon particles were presented.
Some considerations were plotted with respect to a series of simulations conducted to evaluate the influence of geometry on the firing head of the burner performance and kiln operation.
