The latest USGS Mineral Industry Survey for the cement industry reveals that both cement shipments and clinker production increased year-on-year in October 2013.
During the month, clinker production grew 5% y/y to reach approximately 6.7 million t. On an accumulated basis, production levels for January – October 2013 were 3% higher than in the corresponding period in 2012. The states that produced the highest amount of clinker in October were California, Texas, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Florida.
Shipments of Portland and blended cements in the US and Puerto Rico experienced growth of 4% y/y in January – October 2013, rising to 70.3 million t. In October alone, shipments increased by 8% y/y to around 8.7 million t. Texas, California, Florida, Ohio and Illinois were the top consumer states in October, together receiving 35% of the month’s shipments. Missouri, California and Texas were the three biggest producing states.
Masonry shipments also improved, rising by 14% y/y to 213 000 t in October 213. Shipments for the first ten months of the year came in at 1.79 million t, up 8% y/y.
