The CEMEX-Tecnologico de Monterrey Center for Sustainable Development has launched its call for the CEMEX-Tec Award 2019. For the second time, projects will be received not only from Mexico and Latin America, but from all over the world. The 2019 award has two new categories: communitarian entrepreneurship and collaborative action.
In its ninth edition, the award is an annual recognition to entrepreneurs and students who develop high-impact proposals and projects regarding sustainable development, innovation, and social entrepreneurship. The award offers funding, specialised workshops, and networking moments.
The award is divided into four categories with global scope. These include the following:
- Transforming communities is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students with proposals for the sustainable transformation of a community.
- Social entrepreneurs is aimed at entrepreneurs with projects that solve social problems and encourage a systematic change, with the potential of becoming a social business.
- Communitarian entrepreneurship is aimed at organisations, foundations, cooperatives, or civil associations with productive projects of social transformation.
- Collaborative action is aimed at organisations with social impact projects implemented through multisectoral partnerships.
For 2019, the award has sought to generate alliances with the most important actors in the ecosystem of entrepreneurship and social innovation in Mexico and the world. Some of the allies with whom the award is joining to generate a greater impact are Ashoka, MassChallenge, MakeSense, Unreasonable Mexico, ImpactHub, and Disruptivo TV.
The CEMEX-Tec award has received projects from more than 5300 people, which translates into the submission of 2272 projects from 32 countries. 55 of the winning projects have been from Mexico and 44 have been from around the world. Altogether, the projects have beneficiated more than 22 500 people.
