New Chair and Vice-Chairs announced by the Concrete Joint Sustainability Initiative
The Concrete Joint Sustainability Initiative (CJSI) has appointed Julie Buffenbarger as Chair. Buffenbarger is a construction specialist at Lafarge, a fellow of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and a Chair of the ACI Sustainability of Concrete technical committee. In her role as Chair of the CJSI, Buffenbarger will employ her experience and knowledge of concrete to increase educational opportunities and develop partnerships to promote the sustainable, durable and resilient advantages of concrete design and production.
“Concrete is the foundation of resilience,” said Buffenbarger. “Concrete provides countless solutions to building green, energy efficient, durable, and secure buildings and infrastructure in our communities. Through the Concrete Joint Sustainability Initiative, we work to increase awareness, outreach and education so that the role and charge of concrete in resilient and sustainable development is understood globally.”
The CJSI has also announced the election of two Vice-Chairs. James Toscas, President and CEO of the Portland Cement Association, will serve as Vice-Chair of Advocacy. He will advocate the importance of concrete in sustainable and resilient construction to government officials and in terms of public policy, laws and budgets.
Kevin, Mlutkowski, Director of Sustainability and Marketing at the ACI, will be Vice-Chair of operations, overseeing the day-to-day work of the CJSI and providing support to its administrative, strategic and educational initiatives.
