Sandvik Construction held a series of seminars in Argentina and Brazil in October and November. Focused on improving the knowledge base of local quarrying and construction companies, the seminars explored various quarrying activities with the help of experts from Sandvik Construction and other leading industry figures.

From the 28 - 30 October a rock excavation seminar was held by Sandvik Construction for quarrying companies in Brazil. From the 3 – 4 November another seminar was held, but this time in Argentina. Both seminars focused on the dissemination of expert knowledge, both from Sandvik and other respected industry experts.

The seminars are part of a process whereby Sandvik is proactively assisting companies improve their quarrying knowledge base, and the processes they use in order to get the most from their equipment and operations. Sandvik believes that knowledge is the fundamental basis for the development of new techniques and technologies involved in quarrying, and has thus invested in the sharing of this knowledge.

The two seminars were attended by representatives from both Argentinian and Brazilian quarries and construction companies respectively. The feedback received from the participants stated that they were impressed with the nature of the topics covered, the depth into which these were covered, and the data presented.

Amongst the presentations given, Dr. Arne Lislerud, PHD, discussed rock excavation. This was supported by Jarno Hyvarinen, Sandvik Construction Product Manager for the Americas, who presented the latest research and development information concerning drilling and rock blasting. The latter also examined performance parameters and operational factors whilst considering different levels of influence.

The Argentine Quarry Seminar ended with a presentation by Rogerio Coelho concerning crushing and screening, and how this fits in with the complete quarrying process. The Brazilian Quarry Seminar culminated in a successful and enjoyable visit to the Embu Quarry, where the participants viewed some of Sandvik’s latest solutions in action. This provided an opportunity to see how the subjects presented during the seminar are actually benefitting quarrying companies in the field.
