US and Puerto Rico: clinker production up 4% y/y in August 2014
The USGS has released its latest Mineral Industry Survey for the cement industry in the US and Puerto Rico. In the first eight months of this year, shipments of Portland and blended cement increased by 7% y/y to 57.3 million t. In August alone, shipments totalled 8.7 million t. The states that received the most shipments during the month were Texas, California, Florida, Illinois and Ohio, together consuming around 37% of the month’s shipments. The leading Portland cement producing states in the US were Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Michigan.
In August, approximately 6.8 million t of clinker was produced, around 4% higher than in August 2013. Clinker production for January – August 2014 came in at 47.7 million t, up 6% y/y. Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Pennsylvania were the biggest producers of clinker in August, accounting for 48% of the month’s output.
Shipments of masonry cement totalled about 207 000 t in August and improved by 7% y/y to 1.5 million t in the first eight months of the year.
