CM to provide a tyre shredder to Guam’s GWC

World Cement,

CM has received an order for a CM Dual Speed Shredder from Guahan Waste Control (GWC), in Barrigada, Guam. The equipment can process a range of tyre types, including those from passenger cars, light trucks, SUVs and tractor trailers, reducing them down to 2 in. nominal clean cut tyre chips.

GWC, Guam’s only waste management service, has recently partnered with Guam EPA to process and export all end-of-life tyres to Asia as clean cut TDF, which will then be used by the cement industry. Previously, Guam stockpiled the tyres, baling and shipping them when possible. However, due to unstable markets, the size of the stockpiles began to cause concern with regards to disease and fire safety.

Guam is an unincorporated territory of the United States, and several US Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard bases are located on the island. GWC will also process the tyres from these military bases.

Robert Perron, President of GWC says he is “exploring the possibility of working with other island nations in the area to look at ways on how to address regional environmental problems such as the disposal of scrap tyres and other recyclable waste.”

The CM Dual Speed Shredder will be delivered in December in order to allow GWC to begin recycling tyres in the New Year.
