New cement plant in Paraguay expected to begin operations at the end of the year

World Cement,

Paraguay’s Yguazú Cementos is establishing a new 400 000 tpa cement plant in Villa Hayes. The plant is expected to begin operating at the end of 2013. According to local press, construction of the new cement plant represents an investment of US$150. Controlled by InterCement and Concret-Mix S.A., Yguazú received a US$51.75 million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank in 2011.

Located some 25 miles from Asunción, on the Paraguay River, the plant will have a production capacity of 35 000 bags of cement a day, helping to meet the growing demand for cement in Paraguay. The plant will have access to two ports, one at the plant in Villa Hayes and the other in Itapucumí, where quarrying infrastructure and supply facilities will be located.

The construction work has generated around 1500 jobs, and at least 300 posts are likely to be created at the plant when it comes onstream
