US cement shipments and clinker production increased in May
According to the latest mineral industry survey from the USGS, shipments of Portland and blended cement increased by 3% y/y to 7.7 million t in May in the US and Puerto Rico. The biggest cement producing states were Texas, California and Missouri, while Texas, California and Florida were the top three consumers during the month. Accumulated shipments in January – May 2013 reached 29.7 million t.
Meanwhile, clinker production came in at 26.1 million t in January – May and 6.7 million t in May alone, the latter representing 7% y/y growth. The main producers of clinker were California, Texas, Missouri, Florida and Alabama.
Shipments of masonry cement reached 197 000 t in May, up 11% y/y, and increased by 6% y/y to 815 000 t in January – May 2013. Florida, Texas, California, North Carolina and Georgia were the principle consumers of masonry cement in May, together accounting for 49% of received shipments.
