Cement shipments increased in January 2017

World Cement,
Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico in January 2017 were about 5.4 million t, up by 2.9% from sales in January 2016. The leading producing States for portland and blended cement in January 2017 were Texas, California, Florida, Missouri, and Alabama, in descending order. The leading cement-consuming States (Texas, California, Florida, Georgia, and New York, in descending order) received 47% of the January shipments.
Clinker production totaled 4.3 million t in January 2017, down by 17.8% from the output in January 2016. The leading clinker-producing States in January were, in descending order, California, Texas, Florida, Missouri, and Alabama.
Masonry cement shipments of about 183 000 t in January 2017 were up by 15.4% from those in January 2016. The leading masonry-cement-consuming States were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, California, Georgia, and North Carolina; these received about 56% of January’s shipments.
January 2017 imports of cement and clinker of about 675 000 t were 11.8% higher than those in January 2016.
